I get super super frustrated when interfaces require an extra unnecessary click, and stuff like that. it does chew time initially, but once in place, is awesome for my everyday productivity, especially with ADHD. I spend a lot of time on this desktop efficiency stuff. If you know a bit of programming/scripting and this idea interests you, I can expand on this if you might want to make something similar for yourself. Not something you can do with a browser extension alone though, I wrote my own program to manage this. I don't have a single fixed "Downloads" folder, all my downloads just go into where-ever K:\ currently points. and all my downloads / screenshots (including outside browser via greenshot) / screen recordings (captura) / temp notes and other program default locations just link to whatever the "current working folder" is (via the symlink or K:\). Kind of separate subject (but related): I've actually set up a more-general desktop workflow system where at all times I have a "current working folder" activated (using a symlink, and subst K:\ drive letter, stands for "kurrent"). Then it won't pop up with anything at all. In the settings, on the "Destination" tab, you can tick "Save direct (using preferred file out settings)". I spent quite a while comparing them, so I hope you can also benefit from the time I spent trying to solve this!Ībove is assuming you want whole-page (with auto-scrolling) screenshots.įor just general windows/desktop screenshots of either a whole monitor / any window (without auto-scrolling), I use greenshot. That's the least irruptive workflow I could find amongst all the extensions I tested out. Upon clicking, it then automatically closes that preview tab It opens the screenshot preview in a new tab, and I just click teh "Save as image" button

So with these settings, my interaction is quite minimal per-screenshot: I'm always only taking "Capture entire page" Hotkeys: I have ALT-Z bound to "Last used action" (which seems to be the only action you can bind a key to) - but it's ok assuming you aren't taking different type. however it's limited to being a sub-folder of your main Chrome "Downloads" folder only (you might be able to trick it if you create a folder symlink there though) If you don't want to be asked the save-to folder every time, tick "Do not show 'Save as' dialog" (this is what I do, because I don't want to have the extra prompt for every screenshot I take)īy default it'll save in Chrome's "Downloads" folder, otherwise you can pick a sub-folder to save screenshots into by typing the folder name into "Default output folder". Go into the options, and choose these options: Just take a whole page screenshot (with auto-scrolling) ASAPĪfter comparing many extensions, this was the "most-efficient-workflow" I found: So I tried a heap of screenshot plugins, based on criteria: I take absolutely fucktons of screenshots, often 30-100+ a day. The limitation wasn't always there in very early versions of Chrome, but has been for many many years now. unfortunately this is just a limitation of what Chrome extensions are allowed to do. Screenshots of just the active window (no matter the size):Īnd that’s all there is to taking screenshots with dual (or more!) monitors. No popup windows, no editor, no upload to the cloud, share on Facebook and all that nonsense Hit CTRL + V to paste the screenshot in Word, Paint, an email, or whatever else you can paste it into.Hit CTRL + ALT + PrtScn on your keyboard.Make sure there is a program window on that screen, otherwise you will get a shot of both screens anyway.

  • Place your cursor on the screen from which you want a screenshot. It’s a simple tool that runs in your system tray.
  • Here is a quick and easy way to make sure you get what you want from your screenshots. Since dual monitors are becoming much more common, screenshots are a little more difficult. Sometimes we have an error we need to show to IT, or we just got an awesome new desktop wallpaper that deserves attention. For my tips I use them all the time, but many of you need to share a screen grab for many and varying reasons. Screenshots need to happen from time to time.
